Introduction:

The "Kathmandu to Charikot Day Return." This remarkable day trip invites you to discover the natural beauty, cultural richness, and historical charm that define Charikot, a hidden gem nestled in the hills of Nepal. Join us for a day filled with adventure, cultural exploration, and the allure of the scenic landscapes.

Why Charikot?

Bhimeshwar (formerly Charikot), perched atop the hills of Dolakha District, is a destination that offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and cultural heritage. Known for its breathtaking views of the Himalayas, lush greenery, and ancient temples, Charikot provides a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu. It is located 129.1 km away from Kathmandu via Araniko Highway and Lamosangu-Ramechhap Highway, which takes 4 hours and 3 minutes.

Charikot is the oldest Newari town in the district. It is believed that Charikot is the place of origin of Newars and Newari culture. It is the home of an ancient civilization and was the first place to introduce silver coins in Nepal. The surroundings offer a variety of village hikes and treks. In Dolakha district, there are lots of places to visit.

Some major tourist destinations are as follows:

Dolakha Bazaar

Dolakha Bazaar, known as Abhayapur in ancient history, is considered the jewel of the district. Located 4 km east from Charikot, Dolakha Bazaar houses a famous temple of Bhimeshwor, also known as Bhimsen Temple. A mammoth stone pillar erected on the temple premises is a wonder in itself.

Kalinchowk

Kalinchowk is a rural municipality located within Dolakha district. It is located at an elevation of 3842 meters from sea level. Kalinchowk is a hill station and a tourist hotspot. The village in Kalinchowk is named “Kuri villages” where local and international tourists come to experience snowfall during the winter season. After a 30 minute hike from the Kuri village, there is a temple named Kalinchowk Bhagwati Temple, which has its religious value.

To reach Kalinchowk from Kathmandu, you can drive to Deurali, Charikot, and reserve a 4WD jeep and drive for about 2 hours towards Kalinchowk. You can also go by bus to the village during the autumn and spring seasons, but in winter and the rainy season, the road is slippery due to rain and snow. To make your drive possible in winter and the rainy season, the jeep driver uses chains in the vehicle's tires to avoid slippery roads. You can also experience the cable car travel from the village to the hill temple. On the right side of the village, you will find the “sailung”  where yaks are seen grazing, which attracts lots of tourists. This place is the best place for family, friends, and other tours to visit and experience nature.

Dolakha Bhimsen Mandir

About 5 km east of Charikot, a Dolakha Bhimsen Mandir is located, which is a Hindu religious temple. The roofless temple contains the idol of Bhimsen, which is triangular in form and made of hard stone. The Hindu temple is full of statues and bells, which automatically clicks up the non-secular aspect of the visitors. The artistic aspect of Dolakha can also be experienced through portraits, sketches, and woodcrafts.

Visitors would never be tired of the hospitality supplied by the local Newars and consider it as one of the best places to visit in Dolakha. You can also experience the stunning view of the Tamakoshi river flowing down. Besides, if you look down, you may enjoy the splendor of the farms within the slope, which plays an important role in making your tour special.
